Title:
The Growth Of Rugby Union Is Having Its Peaks & Troughs
Headline:
Spectatorship Figures May Have Dropped But Its Still Outstanding For Rugby Union.
Text:
The rugby union spectatorship figures have dropped since the last rugby world cup was held in 2007. Figures are presenting the fact that in 2007 the spectatorship figures for the UK where sky-high, approximately 17 million English viewers tuned in to the rugby world cup 2007 to see if England can retain the cup once again.
But recently since the New Zealand rugby world cup 2011 the spectatorship stats have decreased, the reason why is that England didn't make it to the finals so it put the nation hopes down in claiming the cup. But in the 2011 rugby world cup final roughly 5.9 millions UK viewers on ITV where watching the final even though England weren't playing. So for 5.9 million English people watching the final; that’s still a fantastic number.
The reason why English spectators went down was because England got knocked out the quarter finals. But even if England got to the final the spectator figures wouldn’t have reached 17 million as the English team hasn’t done very well in this season. The reason why it reached it did reach 17 million was because England won the 2003 RWC and people where properly wondering if they can retain it again.
Headline 2:
Participation Rates Are Decreasing In The UK
Text:
Rugby union in the UK is decreasing in participation. Research tells us that since the world cup 2003 participation in rugby union has increased by 16%, but recently in 2011 rugby participation figures have decreased and national governing body Sport England are cutting funding to the Rugby Football Union by £1million.
But on the other hand the 16% increase is a good aspect for English rugby as participation levels before the 2003 world cup where appalling as school participation had dropped by 11%, and also 4% of the population in England have only played rugby.
Rugby in the UK has decreased, risen and then decreased again. One reason why this is happening is that a numerous of adults have stopped playing rugby at least once a week , due to that the participation rates drop and the funding Is being cut because of the RFU have failed to achieve their goal in growth.

ReplyDeleteYou have structured your writing very well. You have an overall statement of wether there has been growth in a certain section of your chosen sport which is supported with start and finish point to your facts. To add to this you have reasons of why we have seen growth or decline.
To improve try to make it blatantly obvious to the examiner which reason you are using in your article by using specific language from the powerpoints and marking criteria.
Also look at your basic spelling and grammar by getting someone else to read it for you. You could also email Mr St Johna and he could have a look through for you.
